Five Matches Not To Miss At EVOLVE 90 & 91

Five Matches Not To Miss At EVOLVE 90 & 91
By Tony Quant

We are now in August, which is a scary thought, but FloSlam is flying through the year with some more stacked events. August is EVOLVE-heavy with two major shows set to take place this coming weekend featuring some truly must-see matches. With back-to-back stacked cards at EVOLVE 90 and 91, it has been difficult to choose just five that stand out, but rest assured, you simply cannot afford to miss these matches below.

Let's check out my picks for the matches you need to see.

WALTER (c) vs. Fred Yehi for the PROGRESS Atlas Championship

Event -- EVOLVE 90
Date -- Friday, August 11

This match is a first-time meeting between the pair, and it promises to be an absolute barn burner. WALTER is making his EVOLVE debut on this show and is fresh off of dethroning Matt Riddle for the PROGRESS Atlas Championship. WALTER will be putting the title up for grabs against Fred Yehi. Yes, you read that correctly, a PROGRESS title is being defended on an EVOLVE show. In my eyes, Yehi has been one of the best performers in 2017, and his fantastic year has been somewhat overlooked. But trust me, good things will happen for this man. This is the classic "Big Guy vs. Small Guy" match, which is a staple of pro wrestling and is great to watch when executed well. I have absolutely no doubt these two will blow the roof off MCW Arena in Joppa, MD. It is guaranteed to be an uphill struggle for Yehi to overcome the man mountain that is WALTER, but with wins over the likes of Brian Cage and Matt Riddle, Yehi is no stranger to overcoming huge challenges.

Keith Lee vs. Timothy Thatcher

Event -- EVOLVE 90
Date -- Friday, August 11

Another first-time meeting goes down in this match, which came about following the chaos of Keith Lee vs. Tracy Williams back at EVOLVE 89.

This match is guaranteed to be a hard-hitting affair, and neither men will be likely to take a step backward, which should be a treat for the fans tuning in to watch. As storylines go, I can imagine some interference from Stokely Hathaway, but hopefully not to the detriment of the action. Keith Lee has a great record in EVOLVE and has only three losses on his resume, all coming against some pretty incredible names (Chris Hero, Ricochet, and Matt Riddle). A win over Thatcher could give him the momentum to go into EVOLVE 91 and take the title from Riddle in the fatal four-way main event.

Matt Riddle (c) vs. Keith Lee vs. Tracy Williams vs. WALTER for the WWN Championship

Event -- EVOLVE 91
Date -- Saturday, August 12

Well, it doesn't really get much bigger than this match. It's so big, in fact, I think they may need to reinforce the ring posts. This match has so many plots running between the four men, with Keith Lee and Tracy Williams fighting to a no contest in their EVOLVE 89 Grudge Match, WALTER recently defeating Riddle for the PROGRESS Atlas title, Riddle holding a win over Williams to become the WWN Championship, and a lot more. The fact this match is a fatal four-way makes it so much much interesting, as each man will be going for the kill from the opening bell and holding absolutely nothing back. Will Riddle be able to get a win back over WALTER? Will Lee be able to capture his first major title? Will WALTER top off his EVOLVE debut weekend becoming WWN champ? Will Williams continue his incredible run since bringing Hathaway on board as Catch Point manager? There are just so many variables that make this match a must-watch spectacle.

Catch Point (Chris Dickinson & Jaka) vs. South Pacific Power Trip (Travis Banks & TK Cooper with Dahlia Black)

Event -- EVOLVE 91
Date -- Saturday, August 12

These four last met back at WrestleMania weekend on the WWN Super Show in a match that was won by SPPT. Since that time, Catch Point won and then dropped the EVOLVE tag team titles and SPPT have only teamed together on one occasion, with TK Cooper dealing with visa issues that left him stuck in Australia. The dynamics of this rematch are very interesting given the amount of time that SPPT have been apart, while Catch Point have only gotten stronger as a team since April. That said, when Banks and Cooper are on form, the team is a joy to watch. Catch Point will have the hometown advantage, but it's difficult to recall a time when a crowd did not get behind SPPT.

Mark Haskins vs. Austin Theory with Priscilla Kelly

Event -- EVOLVE 91
Date -- Saturday, August 12

As a Brit, it is always great to see one of my countrymen on a card in the States, and Haskins will be looking to make his second EVOLVE appearance more successful than his first. Standing in his way is Austin Theory, who is arguably one of the brightest prospects in pro wrestling. Since making the heel turn and teaming with Priscilla Kelly, the 19-year-old has rejuvenated his persona and put himself in a great place on the EVOLVE roster. I was really impressed with his match against Trent Beretta at EVOLVE 89 where he scored arguably his biggest career victory. Haskins is a veteran of the game and will be looking to utilize his in-ring expertise in this match and put a stop to Theory's recent run, which makes for an intriguing match and a sleeper to steal the loaded weekend.
