Style Battle makes its debut this Saturday at The Ivy Astoria Event Center in Tampa, Fla. Your FloSlam subscription gets you access to the live event stream and the replay shortly after the event ends.

Style Battle is a tournament-based promotion. Each event will feature a one-night, eight-man tournament with some of the most exciting stars on the independent wrestling scene.

The opening round matchups feature:

  • Dave Crist vs. Darby Allin
  • Dezmond Xavier vs. Sammy Guevara
  • Fred Yehi vs. Anthony Henry
  • AR Fox vs. Austin Theory
Let's take a look at the first two bouts in the opening round.

Dave Crist vs. Darby Allin

Dave Crist is a member of OI4K (Ohio is 4 Killers) with his brother Jake. They perviously went by Lotus and Crazy J before a stint in Ring of Honor where they were known as The Irish Airborne. OI4K also features Sami Callihan, providing extra punch to their brand of dirty, midwest brawling and flying.

The Crists captured the attention of the independent wrestling scene with their willingness to utilize dangerous and acrobatic moves. Dave has picked up a reputation as the "worker" in the tag team with his wilder, younger brother -- not that Jake is a slouch in any way.

In Darby Allin, he faces a man equally -- if not more -- willing to put his body on the line to come out on the winning end of things. Allin has taken some brutal beatings in attempt to prove his place in EVOLVE. At EVOLVE 74, Allin faced Brian Cage in a bout that showcased the best and worst of Allin's game. He attacked like a man who was unaware of the size and power difference, helping him get the jump early. The match ended when Cage took over and showed off every bit of his powerful offense before throwing Allin from the inside of the ring onto a stage on the outside. While Allin lost by count out, he managed to come through on his promise that he would not be pinned by the monster.

This match is the most unique first round pairing and could result in some truly spectacular moments between men who will give it their all and put their bodies at risk in their quest to prove their place in the ring.

Dezmond Xavier vs. Sammy Guevara

Dezmond Xavier is a walking highlight reel. While still young in the business, his natural talent has helped him land big matches in some of the biggest independent promotions in America. His match with Ricochet at AAW Showdown this past August helped him stake his claim as the next generation of high flyer. Going flying move for flying move with one of the best high-flyers in the business was a big moment for Xavier. He'll now look to build on an impressive breakout campaign in 2016 by taking home the first ever Style Battle tournament championship.

Sammy Guevara is one of the most exciting and hard-working talents in the wrestling business. At just 23 years old, Guevara keeps a very steady schedule, and much like Xavier, is coming off a tremendous year of growth.

Last year, "The Best Ever" picked up wins over big names like Colt Cabana, AR Fox, Eddie Kingston, Zack Sabre Jr., Lince Dorado and many others. While he can fly and has solid mat wrestling to keep up with anyone, it's Guevara's confidence and mental game that set him apart. He's made enemies in his short time in the wresting business due to his willingness to speak his mind at all times, but that same mind keeps him a step ahead of the game and made him a vital part of the FIP roster in 2016.

Check back tomorrow for part two of the first round preview for Saturday's debut Style Battle event. And remember to sign up for a FloPlo subscription for $20 a month so you don't miss any of Saturday's action.
