Style Battle Preview Part 2: Yehi vs. Henry, Fox vs. Theory

Style Battle makes its debut this Saturday at The Ivy Astoria Event Center in Tampa, Florida. Your FloSlam subscription gets you access to the live event stream and the replay shortly after the event ends.

Style Battle is a tournament-based promotion. Each event will feature a one-night, eight-man tournament with some of the most exciting stars on the independent wrestling scene.

The opening-round matchups feature:

  • Dave Crist vs. Darby Allin
  • Dezmond Xavier vs. Sammy Guevara
  • Fred Yehi vs. Anthony Henry
  • AR Fox vs. Austin Theory
After previewing the first two bouts yesterday, let's take a look at the second half of the opening bracket.

Fred Yehi vs. Anthony Henry

This pairing is the most exciting of the opening round, and the man who emerges with the win should be considered the favorite to win the whole tournament.

A member of the vaunted Catch Point stable, Yehi is the current holder of the FIP Heavyweight Championship and one half of the EVOLVE tag team champions with Tracy Williams. As with almost everyone in the tournament, 2016 was a major breakout year for Yehi. He captured the FIP title at FIP Accelerate 2016, besting previous champion Caleb Konley. Yehi went on to defend the title seven times before the end of the year. Included in that list of title defenses is a win over AR Fox, possibly giving Yehi a mental edge if the two meet in the second round.

While he has athleticism to spare, Yehi is a hard-hitting wrestler who would rather hurt his opponents by dropping them on their heads or stomping on their hands. That change of pace could be what sets Yehi apart from other men in the tournament.

Henry is no stranger to the tournament format. In fact, he tore through the field to win the PWX X16 tournament this past November. That performance was very impressive, especially considering he had to pick up wins over big names including Zack Sabre Jr. and Trevor Lee.

Henry is an almost can't-miss prospect for the future. He can fly but is perfectly comfortable mixing it up in the striking game. If he can get past Yehi and pick up a win in the first-ever Style Battle tournament, Henry could be on his way to massive things in 2017.

AR Fox vs. Austin Theory

The always exciting, high-flying Fox needs to rebound from a rough month to close out 2016. Fox dropped the AAW Heritage title to ACH on Dec. 30, closing out a month in which he didn't pull off a victory in any of his big matches. He lost a match to Theory at a Dec. 16 bout at a VIP event.

Still, Fox has been proving doubters wrong for a long time. He is never shy to put his body on the line for a big dive or splash off the top rope. Check out this video for some of the wild moves Fox will bust out at any time:

Theory is a young star with a ton of potential, but he is raw and somewhat unproven on the biggest stages. He is also a man trained by AR Fox. The student meeting the teacher in the first round of the inaugural Style Battle tournament is an easy story to tell. Who survives and goes on to face either Yehi or Henry will come down to which man is able to force the other to wrestle his pace.

Remember to sign up for a FloPlo subscription for $20 a month so you don't miss any of Saturday's action or FIP's relaunch on Sunday.
