Kenny Omega Says He's Leaving Japan

After being involved in what many have called the greatest match in professional wrestling history, Kenny Omega tweeted he is leaving Japan in his rearview mirror.

Omega came up short against Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Championship at NJPW's Wrestle Kingdom 11 on Jan. 4. The incredible bout between the two men was the first Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer scored six stars. Omega's star has been growing over the past few years in NJPW, especially when he assumed the role of leader of the Bullet Club and moved from the jr. heavyweight ranks to heavyweight.

Ahead of the Wrestle Kingdom bout with Okada, Omega was interviewed by Sports Illustrated. During the interview, Omega expressed a desire to not be "just a cog in the WWE machine," despite having a standing invitation to join up with NXT.

Omega is not a stranger to WWE developmental, however. From 2005 to 2006, Omega was a part of then-developmental territory Deep South. He eventually asked for his release and has not had kind words to describe his experience.

However, a pair of tweets from Omega have raised questions about what is next for the 33-year-old Canadian.

What would be next for Omega if he really leaves Japan behind is the big question.

Would he actually make his way to WWE? Would he travel the independent scene trying to build the next stage of his career? Or is this all a ruse ahead of a big return and another run at Okada's title?
